In 2007 I was self employed in New Jersey and also employed in New York City. As a NJ resident I need to pay into the NJ SUI DUI system.

I have filed extensions for both NJ and NY
2007 returns.

Do I go back and file quarterly returns? If so what forms should I use?

How do I pay into the system from now on?

It is too late to make quarterly estimated payments for tax year 2007. You need to file the returns and pay up, because the interest and penalties are accrung as we "speak".

There are quarterly estimated tax forms for BOTH NJ and NY; you can find them on the respective state websites, and well as detailed instructions on how to make payments to both systems.

I know for fact that you can make the quarterly estimated payments to both NY state and NY city electronically, and I would be surprised if you could not do the same to NJ.

Now you must make quarterly estimated tax payments for the year 2008. The due dates are April 15, 2008 June 15, 2008, Sept 15, 2008 and Jan 15, 2009. Normally you send quarterly payment equal to 1/4 of your tax on your 2007 tax return.

To complete your 2007 tax return you should take help of a tax professional. You can contact AtlantaTaxExpert at [email protected].
