I purchase this 158 cc 22" push mower last year from walmart. It worked fine all mowing season. Now I went out to mow my grass today and I can't get it to keep running. If I prime it, it will run for a few seconds then die. I pulled off the air filter and tried again. I get the same result. I have no clue when it comes to mowers. I lived in Arizona for 24 years of my life and until I moved back to the midwest I didn't need to mow grass. Any sugestions?

Ah, you left the gas in it all winter, didn't you?

The lawn mower should get it's blade sharpened, new plug (gapped properly), new AIR filter and fresh or gas that was treated prior to storage and an oil change.

Gas should not be left in the mower for the winter. Let the mower stop when it runs out of gas. Fuel in a mower or in a gas can needs to be treated with Sta-bil if left for more than a couple of months.

So, answer the question and we'll get on with the solution.

EDIT: oil to AIR, and added oil change; thanks md

I ran it until it was out of gas last year the last time I used it.. then this year I bought new gas and put it in. I haven't had the blade sharpened yet. And I also haven't changed the spark plug yet. As for the oil filter I don't know where that is located on it so I'll have to do some looking around on it.

Md:

I meant air filter. I also added an oil change. Thanks.

This seems so much like a classic carb problem, but it usually doesn't happen when you treat the engine like you did.

I'd try changing the spark plug and squirting some carb cleaner in the plug hole. It will act as starting fluid.

Also make sure the safety is engaged (handle bar) and your starting the engine with the throttle past the fast position.

Ok thanks, I'll try that tomorrow and see what happens.

You may also want to check the fuel tank for water and trash.
