My house is approx 60 years old and has plaster walls throughout. I'd like to replace the existing tub surround (not the tub) because it is bubbling out... If you lean on it you fall into the wall. It was that way when I bought the house 3 years ago. Does anyone have any advice on where to begin? I don't even know what is behind the current surround. I'm thinking that my boyfriend and I can do this ourselves... what do you think? We're both pretty handy...

Tell you the truth I hate those surrounds and would rip it out and replace with hardibacker board and ceramic tile. It will cost more but it will lookgreat and last nearly a lifetime. You can probably get another surround for $300 at a real cheap place but expect to pay 3x that for a really good one.
