A friend of mine is getting married and we're working on the time line and introduction of the bridal party. Her fiance's birth father was basically non-existant in his life. His step father played a major role though. Is it proper etiquette to announce his birth father at the wedding even though he's not in the bridal party?

I have been through the same thing and understand. It is a hard situation, but the reality is that the birth parent was not there and should not get the same attention as the step-parent who was there. If he is not in the bridal party, than he should not be announced. However, ask him if he would be willing to give a toast at the reception. If you are not comfortable with that, than have a talk with him and let him know that you are very happy that he is there to share this with you. Make your feelings known, this way anything that you decide on will not be an embarrassing surprise for him on the big day. You never know, he may be expecting a larger role it the festivities.
