Hello all.

I'm new here as you can see. I have a question about my A/C.

I have a Ruud all electrical central heating & A/C. I just turn my a/c on and after about 5 minutes. Of running, I hear a knocking noise in the unit itself. I took the panel off to see if something was wrong. The knocking noise was still going and I notice that the blower (the squirrel cage?) was cutting in and out. Also, throughout the house I could smell an odor. Cold air was still coming out of the vents and I didn't see any frost any where.

Could the blower be going out?

Thank you for the help

David

Its hard to say with your description was the blower wheel and motor vibrating real bad when you looked at it? If so check to see if something is stuck in the blower wheel throwing it out of balance. The blower wheel has two sides and its hard to see the fins on the side the motor is mounted on. Check for a broke or loose motor mount.

The blower wheel and the motor were not vibrating at all. The knocking sounds like it's coming above the blower. When the knocking starts, the blower seems like it struggling to keep up or something. Then it cuts out only for 1 or 2 seconds then starts up again. Then it seems like it loses power then cuts out again for a couple of seconds then starts up again. Weird.
