I have lived in a house that I was suppose to be buying from my mother in law for the past 12 years. I very rarely received a receipt because it being family. Now she says that in 12 years time I have only paid 2 years worth of payments. Now she has gave power of attorney to my brother in law that is trying to get us to move. I want to know if I can claim squatters rights and get the property that way?

I am pretty sure you can only do squatters rights if it goes uncontested that you live there but with your brother in law trying to get you to move and your mother in law saying you have not paid go against claiming squatters rights.
It is always important to do receipts no matter how close they are to you. In your case though even receipts would only prove rent.

Sorry, but without paperwork, you are a tenant and tenants can be evicted. Unless you can prove you had a contract to buy and that you made all payments on that contract, start looking for someplace else to live.

Sorry no, first this is called adverse possession and requires a lot of things, and this does not even start.
You were buying the property, so you should have a written agreement ( since a purchase of a home without a writtten agreement is not nromally considered legal)
Also you would have a record of payment, check reciepts where you paid)
So yes unless you can prove everything in court they can kick you out

Hopefully you have lots of cancelled checks to prove you have paid something. No, you just can't squat there as someone is contesting your habitation.
