View Full Version : Clean out access options?

I'm trying to anticipate a problem before it happens. (and then maybe it will never happen! ) I had a recent slow drain and was told about where to dig to find the clean out. I found the clean out about 10 inches below ground level. I'd like to put some kind of pipe or something over the clean out so I can continue to use the area - near my patio - without burying the clean out in dirt again. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the advice you give to individuals. There are more of us learning things from the answers than you will ever know.

There is a kind of "valve box" you can put over it (I forgot exactly what they're called; they're the kind of box you use to house the valves for outdoor plubing, such as a sprinkler system). Here's an example (http://www.rainbird.com/landscape/products/valves/valvebox.htm); Google for "valve box" for more options.

You can also build your own box-like structure using pressure-treated lumber.

Cheers,
Moishe

Go down to a plumbing or utilities company and purchase a 12" piece of 8" "Blue Brute" plastic water main pipe. Call around to locate it. At the same time pick up a 8" test cap for a cover. Good luck, tom
