I have a Delta shower head that is leaking. I read some of the other forums and it sounds like I have a leaky control valve I think. I've taken the shower head off and it is still leaking. Thus my thinking leads me up the line. How do I check if the control valve is leaking or not? My Delta has a single control ball that turns from cold to hot if that helps any.

You got it Ben... problem is in the valve. Most likely at the seats and springs part # RP4993... same parts for both valves. Now just need to get to them.

Pic. On left is newer, monitor style valve. The pic. On right is older model

Shut water supply... remove handle and chrome trim ring and begin to disassemble unit... get the springs and seats out and replace with new ones (universal, sold at ALL home supply stores).

While you have the seats/springs out you want to quickly PULSE the water on/off so to clear the valve of any debris that may have been distrurbed by your touching the valve.. then install the replacement parts and other parts... turn water on and test. Once all good, put chrome trim ring and handle back in place.

Also note if have the newer, monitor style valve you want to pay attention to the alignment of the temperature limit stop part when start to remove parts... want same alignment when finished (see rotational limit stop in FRONT of the CARTRIDGE (under the #1 in pic. That refers to the cartridge).

Click on the ATTACHED IMAGES: Delta models100 1400 5a03.pdf at bottom left of this post to view more information on the rotational limit stop (part # RP19807 in attachment).
