My wife who's 30 wants her mothers husband to adopt her .she has no relationship with her biological father .

, no they can't . You can not adopt someone who is not a minor.

I have to agree with Fr_Chuck. Adoption is only for children, not adults.

Actually, I think you *can*, if a court allows it, for inheritance purposes.

You'd have to check with a lawyer in your area to find out the final laws on it, though.

I will stand corrected, It appears I studied the law in one of the states in the US that does not allow it. So after further review it appears many of the US states will allow it as long as several things are not part of it.

I live in canada and could not adopt a young adult.The lawyer said it would not be of any good other than for inheritance purposes.Also that could be easily solved by putting her in my will and reasons. I called her my adopted Daughter in the heart. Love from a special parent is not always on paper, but in the heart.
