My CD-R drive does not work. It's a built in Compaq CD-R Drive. Is there a way for me to fix hit?

Problems: It just can't read disks, all the disks I tried are in fine shape. Also, at random times, the disk tray will just pop out.

What sort of discs are you trying to have it read? Be sure that they are not incompatible discs, since the CD-R cannot read all kinds. :) But about the disk tray, I have no idea.

Given the tray issue, I'm leaning toward the drive being defective unless it ejects discs it finally gives up trying to read. A non-defective drive should read any commercially pressed CD (like the Windows operating system CD, or a disc that came with a printer) or any commercial audio CD. You should be able to stick either of those discs in, hear the drive spin the disc up and nothing else. If the drive doesn't spin the disc up or makes a lot of searching noises it's having trouble reading the disc. It's possible the lens may need to be cleaned with a cleaning disc, however, given the low cost of drives and constantly advancing technology I don't consider any time or money spent attempting to fix a drive a worthwhile investment.

If you recently installed this drive, doublecheck your cabling, but in any case the drive should spin up the disc types mentioned above with power alone.
