It may not be a "false" negative, it may just be that a positive hasn't been picked up yet. Since it can be quite easy to miss ovulation when trying for a particular date, it can be helpful to start trying several days before you think ovulation will occur and right through to a few days afterwards. This will give you better odds of having the sperm present when an egg is released as the egg is only viable for a short period.
See what happens with your period... you may have gotten lucky this cycle... good luck!

Thanks for your answer back. We did try before my ovulation date, I knew when my ovulation date was, could it still be false?

The tests are more accurate the closer you get to when you period is due, and even more so afterwards as hcg levels will increase over time. Some women will find they get a positive about a week after ovulation, but many will have to wait until their period is actually late. It could be that it was just a little early for the test to pick it up. If you can stand the wait, maybe give it another week and see what happens to decide if you need to test again or not.
