A few years back we were short on money and some medical bills went to collections... well I have paid them and two of them aren't on my credit report but one is... One my credit report it showed 85 dollars and when I called the doctor's office they had me pay 65.40 and I told them on the credit report it said 85 and they said it must be a mistake. Well they have yet to report the payment to the credit report place, so I called to tell them it was paid, and they said all 3 were never paid and I would have to send proof I paid these before they would stop calling me. I told the lady hey it's your job to prove I owe the debt, these are all paid. And she got rude with me and hung up! Don't they have to legally prove the debt in order to but it on your credit report?

There is no legal requirement to be fulfilled before someone reports to your credit bureau.
I though, like you, feel there should be, especially when it is so difficult for the average citizen to EVER get something corrected once it has been reported.

I don't understand your statement about them needing proof that they were paid before they would quit calling you? Are you saying the credit bureau is calling you?
