How would I settle a judgement made against me when I was never aware of or told about a court date?

Is a tenant supposed to pay rent to a landlord who is not doing what their supposed too?

First question: You file a motion with the court to vacate the judgment on the basis of improper service.

Second question: Yes. There are several legal methods that a tenant can use to force a landlord to do their job. Withholding rent is not one of the legal methods.

1. Well how was the service made, was it left on the door where you lived and you ignored it , not saying you did not know but if there was legal service then the judgement will stand.
So you need to find out what type of service was done and if it was not served properly you can file a motion to vacate it, and they can file a new suit for a new court

2. no you can not just refuse to pay rent, and if you did, they can sue you and evict you. There are other legal ways to handle things, just not paying is not it
