what do I do with the remaining black and white wires that were connected to my fan switch- which I want to replace with a variable controller? I know which are the two black hot wires, but have no where to put these other two wires on the new speed controller. Do I need a different kind of control that will accept more wires?

What was the old speed switch, and how many wires did it have? What is the new speed switch and how many wires does it have?

And what make/model is the fan?
