I don't frequent this particular area of my basement much and I just found water on the basement floor near the down spout (?) for the toilet in the 1st floor bathroom. It is also close to the bathtub. There is no indication of a leak in the bathroom. Upon closer look, my white stucco (basement) drop-ceiling is yellowed in that area... what does this indicate? I was advised that a leaky pipe and resultant damage is the homeowner's responsibility while a burst pipe would probably be covered by the insurance carrier. Any opinion, advice, etc? Do I get a plumber over to the house first or file a claim?

Don't call you insurance claims office yet. Just filing a claim puts a mark on your record and we don't have much damage to report. Remove the section of ceiling after taking some pictures of the stucco. You may ior may not see water on piping above you but what is directly above the center of the yellow spot, a tub drain, pipe elbow, etc... back to you
