Hey guys!
I just bought a new computer, (Vista platform). I keep a extensive data base of both plumbing answers and images that I back up every month or so on a CD. So when I downloaded to CD onto my new hard drive Vista refused to read any rich text documents that I have unless I open them up in word pad. Is there any way I can change all the RTF docs. Into a format Vista will accept? And by the way. I'm not liking Vista as well as I did XP. What do you guys think? Thanks for your time, Tom aka the speedster

It wouldn't be Vista that would normally open them, it would be Word. I'm assuming you don't have MS Office installed (who could blame you, it's expensive). I now use the great free alternative: http://download.openoffice.org/

Once installed it will automatically assign Writer as the program that opens RTF as well as all other Office extensions.

Also make sure you have service pack 1 installed for Vista. It won't fix everything but it will make it a bit faster.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
If you don't have service pack one you can download the entire 434 meg file here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b0c7136d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&displaylang=en).

Tom,

Gog to a site named Tucows Download (http://www.tucows.com). They have all matter of free file type converters.

You would load the software and then start it. Then load the disk, or a copy of the disk (just for safety sake) and then follow the software's instructions.

By the way, you would search Tucows.com using Windows File Converters.
