Look toward the front of the engine, there you will find a black wire about the size of a writing pen, follow this wire and you should find the spark plug. Squeeze the wire to make sure you aren't following a fuel line to the carb.

Look on the side of the motor that has the fins.

I found a similar question at this site: how to mend it .com - Changing the sparkplugs on Craftsman LT1000? (http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=33914)

How do I get change the spark plug on a Craftsman LT1000 - model #917.272.058?
The spark plug seems to be located under the engine block and I can not find a way to get to it.

Your engine should be a Kohler CV460.
To get the spark plug out you'll need a deep well 5/8" Socket and an extension. It is a reach back in there to get it.
The plug is a Champion RC12YC or equivalent and should have the gap set to .040" (1.02mm)
