Hi ,
I hold a good amt. of payments over my credit cards. Until oct. of 2006 everything was going on well. I started earning and was paying the minimum payments over my credit cards every month. Within aperiod of 1 week I was hospitalised and was diagonised with chronic kidney failure with no prior symptoms. From then I was not able to work properly and in feb. of 2007 I came to INDIA and luckily underwent kidney transplantation.I have made minimum payments so far but now not in astate to pay any more bcos I am still in INDIA. The company which I worked for denied to sponsor my H-1 . I am trying for other sponsors. I need time to pay any of my credit cards , bcos I am jobless and I can do the payments only after returning to U.S. Can I ask the credit card companies to give me some time. Is it feasible under medical terms?

The credit card companies will not care about your problems, they just want their money.

Perhaps if you keep in touch with all of them, they may be willing to work with you but if these payments fall more than a few months behind, I don't think they are that nice as to allow you to wait until who knows when.

Good luck with this!

Do not be late on one or more payments. The interest rate will probably increase to above 20%, your balance quickly climb, and you may reach a point where you are unable to earn enough to make even the minimum payment. Your cardholder agreement describes the consequences of late payments. Read it and do the math.

If you have good credit, look into a debt consolidation loan or other lower interest loans to pay off the credit cards. Other entities might be more flexible in dealing with your situation.

You can also sell assets (car?) you won't be using while recuperating to pay the cards off.
