I noticed recently I had water leaking from behind my showerhead. Today I pulled back the little silver ring that fits around the shower pipe and fits up close to the wall. The pipe that is connected to the showerhead and then the pipe that is in the wall is leaking causing minor dry wall damage. I was wondering if I could fix this myself or if I should have a professional come out and fix it? Im nervous because I live in a condo and the condo does not cover this kind of repair but they will cover the cost of the damaged drywall, but if this leak is bad enough to where it caused damage to my downstairs neighbor I would have to pay that cost as well. Do you think it’s a small enough leak and caught soon enough to where it could not cause extreme damage to my neighbors place? Also, it this an easy fix? HELP!! As you can tell I don’t know much about plumbing and any suggestions or help with be appreciated!!

Amathis:

Get a pair of water pump pliers or similar (see pic. Below) and after pulling the silver ring forward, turn the chrome shower arm counterclockwise to remove it.

If it breaks off for you, it would most likely have broken off for the plumber... but there are some tricks plumber's use to repair this so may not have to open wall.

Then put some teflon tape around the threads of shower arm (say 6-7 wraps.. clockwise around threads) then re-install the shower arm.

That should do it, unless shower arm is corroded and broke off. If does, let us know and will try to talk you through that part.

And if it caused any damage... your neighbors would have said something by now. Sounds like you caught it in time to me... ;)

This is not a hard job... good luck. Mark
