I am a uncertain if I have to pay taxes or the government returns all the federal withheld taxes to me as a F-1 student. I worked as an intern in 2007 and my total wage was a little above $6K. I filled form 1040NR-EZ and 8843-which I believe it states that I am exempt of paying taxes. I know some non-resident aliens with student visa that have received full refund for their federal taxes. Please help me understand the process and what is form 8843 specifically for?

You are NOT exempt from federal or state income taxes; you ARE exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes.

However, your income is so low that the combination of your $3,400 personal exemption and your treaty exemption (if one exists) may result in you owing NO tax.
