I have a JVC HR-XVC 33U combo VHS/DVD player which worked fine on my old analog TV. Now that I have a Sharp Aquos digital HD TV, my VHS tapes and DVD's (all of them) "skip". That is, they play a second or two and then the screen goes black, then plays another second or two, and back to black. This goes on and on. I can hook this same player up on another old analog TV and the tapes and DVD's play just fine on this player.
I have also tried swapping out the cables, and I have tried both component cabels and "regular" video/audio cables.
My question is: If I were to buy one of the newer player/recorders such as the Sony RDR-VXD-655, would my tapes and DVD's then play smoothly? Is the problem that it doesn't convert the signal properly to display and the Sharp HDTV? Should I expect it to?
