I have an adult child living at home. She is verbally abusive and causes a great deal of stress for my wife who already has health problems.
What can I do legally to get her out of the house? Thank you.

Hi,
Welcome to the site, and thank you for posting a question here.
If your child is 18 or over, and just telling her to leave doesn't work, then you might have to resort to getting a "Restraining Order", or a "Peace Bond", depending on where you live.
Talk with your local Police Department, and if you have a Magistrate, then talk with him/her. You can also go to the local Court House, go to the Court Clerk's Office, and they will be able to help you.
Orders of this type normally state how far apart you want to be away from the person. I do wish you the very best.

I am assuming that she doesn't pay rent.
Tell her to get out. If she doesn't, then place her things on the front porch and change the locks. She isn't a tenant, since she's not paying rent.
In the end, you can have the police remove her if she refuses to leave.

You are correct in assuming she doesn't pay rent, or anything else.
Thank you for your answer.

Yep, tell them to get out, if they don't change the locks, set all of their belongings on the front porch. If they break in, get a protective order and if they come back have them arrested.
I had strict rules while they went to school, including tech school or college, they could stay free at home, if they were not in school, in one month they had to get a job and start paying rent. If they didn't, what I did was to pay their rent at some dump rental and move them out, then if they got evicted it was there fault but they did not move back home.
I don't think any of them ever had to sleep in their car.

I grew up with 3 rules 1-go to college2-get a job3-sign up for the service by the time I turned 18, the day after graduating my father asked for my decision. Those were the rules and that was that, do something or get the hell out!My old man enforced his rules so the next day I had a job and was saving money for my freshman year at college,I still thank him to this day for the tough love he showed way back then!
