Hello:

I woke up this morning to the present surprise of a slightly cooler than normal house. So I checked the T-stat and it was calling for 70F but the room temp was only 65F. So, I first checked for gas. My water heater is working and I can hear gas "hiss" at the heater unit when it attempts start-up.

Before I go too much further, I have a Carrier 58STA090-16. The unit when into service in winter 2003.

As I stated before, I can hear the gas "hiss" but I do not hear the ingnitor activate. It attempts to ignite 3 times and displays code 34. After the third attempt the unit stops and displays code 14 - "ignition lock-out".

So, I gather for some reason the ignitor is not working. My question is, what should I check next? What could be the problem?

Test or replace the ignitor for the HSI system. Location near burner. Look at the blower door panel for wiring diagram and test voltages. Ignitors do go bad.
