Hello everyone. This is the first time I am using this site.

Earlier today, I noticed a strange noise from my forced air furnace. I believe it is from the induced draft blower motor due to a bad bearing. I have to admit the noise is not as loud as earlier, and I have not done anything to make it quieter! So I think it will go bad soon. I am wondering whether there is any fire hazard if the blower is seized before I get a chance to change it? Or the system stops flowing gas if the motor stops woorking. Thanks.

No real fire hazard, That little motor has a over current protector in the windings. You might try and run some oil down the shaft to make it last a bit longer or as you said just replace it. Check to be sure no water/moisture is in the fan section causing a problem.

Thanks for quick reply.

Is there any CO danger if the motor malfunctions? The way I understand, this little motor causes the furnace to come on. So if it seizes, the furnace will not stay on either. Is that correct?

I don't believe Home Depot or Lowe's sell this motor. Where can I order one besides internet?

The motor or entire assembly is available on the net and at one of the local HVAC shops.

If the motor stops the furnace shuts down.
