According to a post on another forum, "It is the service for web distributing and authoring. Seems to be related to OWA"
What is DAVEX? (http://forums.msexchange.org/m_150060500/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#150060500)

That's not a quote from Microsoft directly, so I'm not sure if it's completely accurate, but I do know that DAVEX comes from some part of Exchange.

From Expert-exchange.com DAVEX successfull? : davex (http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Windows_Server_2003/Q_21595101.html)

DAVEX is the WebDAV EXtension used by Outlook Web Access on the server side to access Exchange mailboxes.

I can at least confirm that my Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2 server running on Windows 2003 Server Standard SP2 has a DAVEX.DLL file located in the \Exchsrvr\bin folder and that there are also language versions for the file. It was not located in the OWA source files folder but that does not mean that OWA does not use it... just my 2 cents worth.
