How art. int. can b use in automobile design

Artificial Intelligence is using computer programming to simulate the deductive reasoning of the human mind. It can be used in almost any application where conditions need to be analyzed and decisions made based on those conditions.

So far no AI program has been able to equal the capabilities of the human mind. But some have been able to do specific things (like play chess) to compete.

Also, according to a story on National TV Network News, there is an experimental automobile, equipped with computers, that can drive ITSELF.
There is no wiring in the highway, or on the test tracks anywhere. One sits in the passenger's seat, and this vehicle drives itself around town, in traffic, making turns when you want, etc.
It's billed as the vehicle of the future.

Perhaps a little off topic, but I often think "artificial intelligence" is an oxymoron… or at least a misnomer.

Although it is true that both people and machines evaluate situations based on rules and conditions that they have learned, the human brain is much more complex and derives much more information than any artificial system will ever be able to.

A task like driving a car would be well suited to an artificial system since the rules are static and there is limited variability in the conditions the system would have to make judgments on.

Advance that a little and think about flying a jet. It's possible for a computer to do it, but the possibility space is so varied that it's a difficult set of conditions and environment for an artificial system to handle for every situation.

A task like caring for a child would be extremely difficult for an artificial system to deal with because of the nearly infinite range of conditions and environments that could be encountered.

Don't get me wrong… I want an intelligent robot buddy too - like the Lucy Lui robot in Futurama - I just think it will be decades before a technology like that can become a reality.
