Hello,

I'm looking for an old movie. I saw this movie on TV about 35 years ago. Back then, the last movie on TV was shown on a program called the Bijou in St. Louis, MO. I don't know what network carried The Bijou.

The movie was an old black and white movie about a little boy and his grandfather. They have a magic apple tree. The apple tree can catch and hold anyone who tries to steal an apple without permission. One day, death arrives to take the grandfather away. The little boy sends death up into the apple tree knowing that the tree will keep death in the tree. In this way, he saves his grandfather from dying. After a time, death can't visit anyone on the planet and there is suffering and pain all over the world. The little boy learns why death is important so he releases death from the tree to take his grandfather. At the end, the little boy waves to his grandfather and as he looks into the horizon he sees all their loved ones waving the grandfather to heaven.

A friend of mine saw this movie with me. She said she thought the grandfather actually started to rot. His nose fell off and things like that, but I don't remember that part. I remember that the grandfather stays intact and that the movie stays beautiful.

Anyway, if anyone out there recognizes this movie, I sure would appreciate knowing the title. It would be really neat to see it again.

I think On Borrowed Time is the movie I've been looking for. Thank you so much. You don't know what this means to me.
