View Full Version : Replace old toilet

My house was built in the '40s. The toilet to be replaced has two hold-down bolts on each side of the base. As far as I know new toilets have only one hold-down bolt on each side.

How do I work around this apparent incompatibility? The existing toilet looks like a modern toilet (probably not the original). Will the toilet drain line up with the floor drain if I replace with a new toilet.

Thanks

Hi replace:

The two most forward bolts will just be johnny SCREWS.. they just rotate out as normal screw... may need to get pliers or good pair of vise grips out to remove these... but only after old toilet has been removed completely.. then unscrew these and should be all set to install normal toilet with regular johnny bolts... see pics. Below.

You will see what I mean when old toilet is removed...

Do you know how to measure for a new toilet..

Let me know if need more... Mark
