Tom, they can't afford a positive assessment of Iraq right now as believing their presidential candidates has required such a "willing suspension of disbelief" of late. Since they don't have a crisis to fall back on at the moment she had to initiate a unilateral preemptive strike, because she already knows the latest NIE "paints an improved picture (http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7010538675)" that "focuses on improvements in the Iraqi government and in security on the ground."

Earlier in the week the MSM was spinning the recent action in Basra as a set back . But more sober assesments have debunked that assertion since. I think Pelosi is clinging to that sliver of hope that the Basra battle can be portrayed as an Tet moment.

Tony Snow was just talking about the spin in Basra, something like 883 Mahdi fighters killed, a couple hundred wounded, thirty something captured and one American casualty if I recall.
He also pointed out Lindsay Graham's response (http://lgraham.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=1620d799-802a-23ad-4b49-5be65451c779) to Madame Speaker:
“Speaker Pelosi’s warning to General Petraeus about his testimony being ‘too shiny’ says more about her than it does about him.
“General Petraeus has been forward-deployed for over four years since 9/11 and is one of the most talented, respected military commanders in our nation’s history. I’m confident he will tell us about the gains that have been achieved and the challenges which lie ahead. That is his duty to his country and the troops under his command.
“I have no confidence Speaker Pelosi will ever accept anything coming out of Iraq other than a loss. She and other Democratic leaders long ago declared the war lost and have built a political model for the next election around that outcome. It’s sad the accomplishments made by our men and women serving in Iraq cannot be acknowledged.
“Speaker Pelosi seems to be more concerned about the outcome of the next election than receiving accurate information from a distinguished military leader like General Petraeus.”
Good for you Senator, I hope this is blasted across every media outlet in the country.

Or, as their progenitor said, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” LeninHello George:
Name calling again?? I guess that's the last resort for those who have no arguments left. I could say something about YOUR progenitor, Mussolini, but I'm a better person than you.
Bwa, ha ha ha ha.

Hello again, George:
Some right winger named Goldberg just wrote a book saying that, and you bought it. Too bad. The reason you think fascism is close to communism is because you don't understand the difference.
Besides, if you can't find a name in the history books for people who did the things your side is doing, then you can blissfully (and ignorantly) DO fascist things and think you're doing patriotic things... Which, of course, is exactly what the right wing is doing.

You are a wise man, ex; how about you explaining the difference between fascism and communism where I'll understand.
