My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 1 1/2 years now and can't. I have been to the doctor and they say I'm fine. I stopped taking birth control in oct 2006. That couldn't be the reason we're not pregnant yet could it?

What kind of birth control were you using?

Ortho tri-cyclin

I was on ortho try-cyclin for 7 years. I stopped taking it for about a year, and I got pregnant. Every woman is different though. Do you have regular periods now? If so, do you track your cycles or use a fertility monitor?

Has your husband has his fertility checked? It isn't necessarily you that could have a problem.

I am not assuming, just asking...

Does your husband wear tight briefs?

Does he take a lot of real hot showers, use sauna regularly or do you live near the desert? Heat can reduce sperm growth.

Also, is he taking regular prescription medication? Some medicines inhibit virility too.

Believe it or not, even if he has problems with his teeth and does not go to the dentist, it is possible that this could be the cause. I know a homeopathic physician who can attest that bad dental hygiene can be the cause of many illnesses that other school medicine physicians fail to take into consideration.

There could also be other things such as diet, chronic illness, etc. So if you both want a family, all he would have to do for starters is have his spermcount checked - and that is not really a hard thing for a man to do.

Talk to him about it. You went through all the checkups and tests, now it's his turn, it's only fair. If he's not ready to take the step to see the doctor, at least have him consider changing some habits if my above questions wind up being 'yes'. Loose and cool and good healthy teeth are a start for good sperm production - and if that fails, then he should really consider seeing a doctor.

Good luck dear, let us know how you progress either way.

EDIT: Some doctors also forget that if you are too skinny, don't drink whole milk or eat only lowfat milk products - no matter how healthy your body looks, or even if you ovulate, there is a possibility that your body thinks you cannot nourish a fetus and will not 'let' you get pregnant. That's what usually happens first to women with eating disorders- their reproductive organs revert back to pre-adoloscent state to prevent reproduction. So eat some real ice-cream, drink a few milkshakes and good cheeses - that might work too.

I understand where you're coming from. My partner and I tried for over three years. He went and had his sperm checked, great sperm. I had my uterus and fallopian tubes checked, they are fine!
I was told that the process used to check my uterus usually does help a woman become pregnant. Go to your doctor and ask to have all these done, this may help you.
Still no kids, but I am quite happy with the way things are!
