We have a beautiful Boston terrier which over the course of time has decided to train himself... without any lessons ro training he will walk with us anywhere and everywhere.. inside a store outside at a park on down the street. BUT... as soon as I put the leash on him, he freezes right up and no coaxing, no treats, no running past him and excitedly calling him to run with us gets him to move... take the leash off and he "is free" and jumps around all excitedly again. As much as he won't chase other dogs off a leash or wander, we of course are concerned for his safety while walking on the road to the park. Especially now as the neighborhood is getting busier with vehicles.
I do have him used to the collar.. ( that was a similar reaction.. but got beyond that)
Any suggestions would be great,
Thank you.

You might put the lease by your dog and when you get ready to walk him refer to the leash all the time. If he is not interested then wait. Try hooking him to it and make a really big thing out of it. Unfortunely, if he will not do it, I wouldn't take him on anymore walks unless it is in the wilderness. I seen a dog walking with his owners one time and the owners didn't have him on a chain and another dog came out from nowhere and attack their little dog and they couldn't get the other large dog off him in time. You are great parents for worring about it. Good luck

Get a small leash one that dosen't drag when we walks but just hangs there and leave it on him all the time he will get over it I have a boy here who is scared of the leash (we think he was beaten by it long ago) however we just started by leaving a clip attaches then attached some rope to the clip and then made the rope longer every time he got calm and relaxed and never cared about it we made it longer then we started holding the end sometime not pulling or anything like that just following him round occasionally picking it up and we just kept building on it now he walks on a leash it's only there for show he never pulls and we never pull he just follows along with it on

I have a Boston terrier as well and had the same issue when she was about a year old I switched her from a collar to a harness when I put her on the leash and I introduced her to both of these while being inside of our home she warmed up to the harness fast and the leash took a few weeks until I could get her to walk comfortably outside of our home try it it may work for you as well
