Wow, good question. To me honesty is treating others the way I want to be treated. I don't want to be lied to, or stolen from, hit, screamed at etc...

Honesty to me is having the ability to say something everyone else is afraid to say. To tell the truth when the person asking a question doesn't want the truth.

Truth is subjective. The truth to one person, may not be the truth to another. For example, before we knew that the Earth was revolved around the Sun, It was the Truth that the Earth was the center of the Universe. I think that the truth is saying what you know to the best of your knowledge. I believe that dishonesty is saying something you know to be untrue, So Honesty is NOT saying something you know to be untrue.
I would probably explain this to me daughter with an example. Something along the lines of: If I asked you if you took a cookie from the cookie jar and you did, and you said you didn't. That would be being dishonest. Buy if you told me the truth, that would be being honest. Did I explain that well?

In additon I think its hard never tell lie, is it a honsty? No, in many cases, it will be considered as a fool. For example somebody say:" how are you"? With smile you 2 meet ,you must say fine thank you even if you had a toothache that time none will considre the answer is dishonest, but actually he lies

how are you"? with smile you 2 meet ,you must say fine thank you even if you had a toothache that time none will considre the answer is dishonest, but actually he lies
When you go to the gas station and an attendant says Hi how are you today, he really doesn't care how you are doing. He is just being polite. And I don't know about you but I'm not going to tell some guy I don't know what's going on with my life.
Same thing with people you work with of course the people I see everyday, when They say how are you doing I say oh my head hurts or great I just got this new computer. But I talk to a lot of people on the phone pretty much the same people almost every other day they ask me how I am doing but they don't care and I am not going to tell them how I am doing cause it doesn't matter.
So after making a short answer long, No I don't think it is a lie when you say you are fine when people ask how you are. You are just being Polite to even answer a question most people really don't care to hear an answer to.

This is sounding like it should be in Philosophy not Children. Your child might be too young at this point to understand the concept. The concept is simple - telling what really happened is the truth ("I broke the glass"), telling something that did not happen is not the truth ("daddy broke the glass"). Don't complicate things for a young child.

You know what honesty is. You can explain what it is to your child. Explaining tactfulness is different. Actually, if he dislikes the cakes, he can honestly, and politely say so. Or he can have a bite and say that he's not hungry for cake anymore.
My ten year old is tactful with her Grandma. She amazes me with her patience, Grandma forgets what she just said and says it again, and again. Later, I compliment my daughter on her tactful behavior, and she just shrugs and sighs. "It makes me tired, but I know that Grandma doesn't know that she is saying things over and over."
Honesty is best, with tact. Children learn best when they can take their cues from us so you can be there to help.
