I moved in and have a hampton bay ceiling fan in my dining room. The remote
Control does not work or the ceiling fan doesn't. Inside of remote it says to remove
Battery, reset transmitter and receiver to exactly match code number position,
Reassemble and test.
I changed battery but have no idea what the transmitter & receiver code number
Positions are. Don't know it the remote is bad, nothing lights up with new battery.
I am confused.
Any Help to this lady that knows absolutely nothing about electrical things would be

Sound like the remote is a transmitter, so the fan must have a receiver. Open all the panels you can find on the remote... even if you have to unscrew some. You are looking for a bank of micro-switches. Normally there are 8 (or 16) very small (1/8th or 1/16th inch) switches. Once you have found them, you'll know what to look for on the fan. There will be a similar bank of switches on the fan. You want to make sure they are set exactly the same.

Thinking about this a bit more, the first thing I would check is to see if the remote actually matched the fan. The previous owner might have done the switch a' roo on you.

I took the remote apart and found the transmitter. Don't see a name on the ceiling

It's the receiver and you'll have to take it apart... but now you know what you are looking for.

Yes you do it is right on top hidden in cover dish

Does the fan have pullchains? Does the LED light up on the remote?
