3613474177, Actulally I have seen people on here looking for someone and a poster will come up with a name and phone number. Grant it they do not always tell us if that was the person that they were looking for, but I have seen it happen.

Do an online search for "people finders". Look at several. Try to find one that lists the age of individuals. (Frequently, they want you to give them money to do a background chedk... avoid those. Stick to the free ones.) Usually, when you do a search, the search engine will return lots of people at a number of addresses. It would help if you know things like his line of work, where he last lived or where he lived after he left. Some of the search engines will keep people on file even after they move.

I'm afraid that with a name like George Phillips, you ae going to find a great number of people to sort through. But, any information you get can be useful. Once you cut down the list, unless the addresses are close, you will probably have to send post cards or something with a way tor the person to get in touch. Say something on the post card that requests individuals send you an email telling you they are NOT your dad. This way, you can cross people off your list. Make sure you include your email.

Why do you think she can't be helped at "AMHD," as you put it?

We really are "worthy of the power to summon" (?) - several people have been located through the efforts of the members.

She is a minor and there are some restrictions as to what we can do, to find her birth parents without her parents or guardians permission.

This does not stop using some public search engines, or giving her the link to those search engines, But a few people I would suspect have access to some paid search sites, and there are legal issues of doing searches for minors.

I'm pretty sure, Fr Chuck (because we've "talked" about this), that you don't mean me but to clear this up for everyone - there is enormous liability (to say nothing of the danger to the person who has been located) if a person is located using a private site for anyone who does not furnish a letter of authority explaining what info they need, why they need it. Things really changed (and the rules got tightened) when the Dentist in Texas ran her husband over with her Mercedes ("by mistake," 5 or 6 times, as I recall), based on info provided by a Licensed Investigator. Speaking only for myself I have never posted any info re: locating anyone that was obtained from other than a public site and have never released private info for anyone other than a paying client.

In this case I am concerned that someone 14 years old is posting personal info on a public site - I think it's dangerous, I wonder if her mother knows, that's why I mentioned it to her. People stay out of other people's lives for various reasons and all reunions are not happy reunions.

While I'm preaching/teaching/telling other people how to live - I am always concerned when extremely personal info is posted on the threads. This is a public board. Last week I was posting on a legal thread, back and forth regarding custody and support and suddenly realized that I have first-hand knowledge of the situation... from the other side! I immediately had my posts pulled because I don't want a problem with ethics but the info posted was inflammatory and untrue and I think possibly actionable if someone wants to take it that far - and on a public board, by someone presumably educated and savvy, someone who should know better.

Not saying personal info shouldn't be posted; it's part of who we are; it's part of where the advice is coming from. I'm just saying not to be stupid.

No, not you, and not really sure of some others but there has been some that seem to find info that would be hard to find without using restricted access, and those seaerches normally require some "permission" level.

I asked that my classmate be given my name and number. I heard from him about two weeks later.

And OK, maybe he doesn't want to be found... or maybe he thinks he doesn't want to be. Not our call. She asked help in finding him. I don't see a problem unless we suggest something unethical. No one is disagreeing with you - it's not what "we" will suggest that might be unethical. It's what someone else might do/suggest/volunteer.

I think it's inappropriate for a 14 year old to post private/personal info on a board. You presumably are an adult; she is a child. You and I don't disagree on the private/personal posting stuff.

Dear please do be careful. I have been searching the net to find info about persons that my daughter wants to do business with. The search is leading me toward some suspicious conclusions. So far it looks like drugs and or prostitution are involved. One of the names is George Phillips in Florida. He is a registered sex offender. I believe these people may be trying to get my daughter to launder money. We will be cautiously discontinuing communication with them. I suggest that you do not proceed with your search without the guidance of an adult.

He is very young and therefore maybe he is on Facebook or other social networking sites - I would try this and see if you can see him - good luck
