Not sure what you mean by what you get out of it. Are you talking money? Benefits? Personal satisfaction? Do you enjoy helping people.

As a gal graduating from nursing school in a slim 32 days, I can tell you that if you aren't sure this is what you want... don't do it. I'm not talking the expense here, but nursing school is hard, intense, and extremely stressful.

I spent 2 years for an Associates Degree to be able to double check a doctor who went to school for umpteen years. I have to be able to double check the doctor's work and know whether he is right or wrong with just 2 years of schooling under my belt.

What you get out of it, is being help to help and care for others. Care giving is what a nurse is about. Not about making money, not about a career but about serving others and helping others live better more comfortable lives. That is what I believe it is about.

It is not about what you can get out of it, but what you nursing can do to help others.

If you can not really answer it, or do not have an idea what it is good for then it is not the best thing for you to get into.

Nurse anesthetists can make 250 grand a year or more and get paid on salary.

Yes, they CAN make that much, but it's unlikely. It's like saying surgeons can make a million a year. They CAN, but on average, nurse crnas make roughly 120k.

I can understand your lack of knowledge about the field but 70% of them make much more than 120,000 a year and a lot of them range up to 250,000 or even more especially because most go into private practice for hospitals and not just work in hospitals. Nowadays, nurses can and do make more money than doctors, and that is especially true because of the overtime benefits and high demand for them. Nurses are in extremely high demand and without them, we would be heading for trouble. Without them, who's going to run the hospital? Not the doctors. I know because I have a lot of nurses in my family. Nursing anesthesia is a very hard job, and along with it comes tons of compensation for your information. Just research online and look for actual job listings to see the compensation offers from actual places that are looking for them for private practice or what have you. Here is an example even:

Maybe in California where you are from. But this is not the norm across the country.

Also, where I live, BSN nurses start at the same base pay as the ASN nurses. BSN is necessary for management positions, but not necessary for floor positions.

I have to ask, are you a nurse yet or are you still studying? You seem to have some misconceptions much the same as I did while I was in school.

teezee: As I said, those are exceptions. The AVERAGE pay for a crna is around 120k.
