Hi,
I think I have this figured out.
I've looked at other websites, including applianceguru.com but it was here at AskMeHelpDesk.com that the clue was revealed.
Having found that my igniter on this (up till now) great dryer was open circuit, I took it off and inspected it.
At about 5/8" from the tip looking across all four bars of the element, low and behold, the 3rd bar has a crack.
If you squeeze the bar at the crack, continuity returns.
I have first to find out what the part number is.
It's smugged on the connector plug but looks like:
MODEL NO. 101M
3049700
9834
1. Have you any advice on the right model number and where to order one & the cost?
2. Until the new one is delivered, could I weld the old one and expect it to hold for a while?
(I don't expect soldering to work as I believe it runs at too high a temperature.)
Thanks.

05Apr08 @ 19:00 - I installed a new ignitor, having learnt how to check out the dryer from here: Fixitnow.com Samurai Appliance Repair Man: Appliance Repair Wisdom for the Ages: Appliance Tip of the Day: Gas Dryer Problem Solver (http://fixitnow.com/2002/10/appliance-tip-of-day-gas-dryer-problem.htm).
I'm happy to report that our "little flame thrower" burst into life with this new ignitor installed. Thanks too, to Appliance Parts from RepairClinic.com - HomePage (http://www.repairclinic.com) for supplying the fragile part on-time and in perfect working order.
