I have been in the US from 1/1/2007 to 8/1/2007 on a J1 visa receiving income from a US university. On 8/2/2007 I moved back to my home country, Sweden, to start a new job. For the period in the US, I am a resident alien under the substantial presence test.
Which is the right way for me to file my tax return? I guess I have to file as a dual-status alien to avoid having to pay US taxes on my income received in Sweden?
Should I file any other documents than the ones below?
Form 1040NR (since I was a non-resident at the end of the year)
Form 8843, Statement for Exempt Individuals and Individuals with a Medical Condition
Form 8840, Closer Connection Exception Statement for Aliens
Statement establishing my residency termination date
