I have an eight year old maytag washing machine that was screeching for about the last month when it went through the spin cycle and now it won't spin at all. It fills with water but won't spin. Is is worth fixing? Or is it something simple like a belt.

The motor went after three years, I might have a lemon. I only do about five loads of laundry a week.

Get an estimate on what it will cost to repair before you decide to get a new one. Repairing it sounds like an easier way to go versus buy a new one. I would see about keeping it versus a new one. If you don't do that much laundry - why buy a new one?
