Hello all,

I recently bought a used Nissan Altima GXE - 2000 model. The car seems to be good and everything was fine until suddenly the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light started glowing. My car's Temperature meter/gauge is not working fine since I bought it. Do you think the faulty meter is the reason for the light coming up? Is it a serious trouble because I cannot get it to a repair station until a week... Please suggest me what to do

Thanks a lot!!

Bob

The service light would not cause a problem that I know of.
I know many people who keep running with the service light on.
If your car is overheating you need to take care of that asap.

Hello Sir,

Thanks for your quick reply...
Can you suggest me how to find out if my car is getting heated excessively since my temperature meter is not functioning correctly... It shows random readings...

Regards,
Bob

If it is the gauge it most likely is not a problem with your cooling system.
Are there any gas stations with garages around you that you could stop after you have driven it for awhile and ask?

If you do have a problem in the radiator system after you have driven it for awhile open the hood and see if the hoses look swollen and listen to hear if the water is boiling excessively.

It most likely is the wiring or something in the gauge though.

Also have someone check the fluid level in the radiator before you drive it. If it is low I would have it checked asap.

;) Here in Florida, you can go to any Auto Zone and they will 1) read the code that turned SES light on, 2) reset it (turn off) and 3)give you a printout of code with description.
They have done this 3 times for me with my 2002 Altima, which keeps popping that light on and ruining my marriage.
