I think I was 7 or 8 when I saw it, so I don't exactly have much memory to go on. All I know is that it was an 80's kids movie with a robot that looked kind of like a white cylindrical trash can on wheels with a round bubble top. It ran on Disney way way back. There is one scene with the two kids and the robot in a sewer, they have his white hemispherical head sat on an oil drum and he shows them schematic stuff in his glowie "brain." And in another scene, the kids are trying to make their gettaway and they ask it "Can you drive?" and the robot says "No, but I can learn!" and he pulls a manual from the glovebox and flips through it then they take off. It wasn't Short Circuit or any of the typical more well-known 80's robot movies.

It's called "And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird (http://imdb.com/title/tt0101343/)" (1991) The robot is the kids father and it's voiced by Alan Thicke.

I actually remember -that- movie and I don't think it's the one I'm thinking of
Because in that one the robot is red with a chrome barbecue grill for its head/dome.
The father runs his car off a cliff and God or whatever sends him back as his son's
Little garage science project. The father and mother have an awkward dance scene
In the kitchen. The father (having been human and driven before) wouldn't need to
Read a manual to learn to drive a jeep. AYTYPWW has a similar R2D2-styled robot,
But its from 1992, (I was 11 then) and the one I'm trying to remember is 80's.

The robot had the typical "cute robot" Johnny 5-ish voice, not a human's voice.
It had white cylindrical body and white dome top that could glow schematics in it.
There is one scene with the kids riding in the back of a semi and the robot shows
Them stuff in his 'glow in the dark' white "head," in another scene the kids are
In a sewer, and the robot almost falls in the water, the kids set his head on
An oil drum and then try to fetch his body out. Then there's another scene
With the gettaway on the open air jeep; Can you drive? "No, but I can learn."

They are trying to escape his creators or something I guess.
