How to dye my naturally black hair a medium/dark shade of brown, using professional products like those found in the salon? I won't use the kits found in the store. I want to buy the color and 20 or 30 volume developer separately in the beauty supply store. If anyone is familiar with "Clairol", or "Wella", that would be great. If you are a professional hair colorist, that would be even better! Thanks, mssherryk

Wella professional hair coloring products are sold in salons. However, you can obtain Clairol and separate peroxide developers at a beauty supply store. Keep in mind that black/dark hair contains a lot of red pigment in it. Therefore, you will pull red/orange tones when using a single process hair color on your hair. If you're thinking of coloring your hair, choose an ash color to help neutralize the brassy tones. Ash hair colors work best on dark hair.
