Help! My kenmore washer won't fill with water during the wash cycle, but the rinse and spin cycle seems to be working fine. When I turn the knob to "wash" nothing happens.

Help!! My kenmore washer won't fill with water during the wash cycle, but the rinse and spin cycle seems to be working fine. When I turn the knob to "wash" nothing happens.

Is the tap open?
The water enters the machine after passing the tap, via an electric valve. That valve may be not operational.
Two possibilities : either the pressure switch is not switching, or the selenoid of the electric valve is faulty faulty.
The pressure switch is a round flat disk with a rubber tube connected to the drum.
If the water level in the drum rises, the switch prevents overflowing.
But it can have a problem by not opening the valve at all.

First remove the power lead from the socket and put it on the ground in front of you : safety first!
Open up the rear.
Disconnect the electric water valve.
Use a "multimeter" to see if there is any resistance (should be between 20 and 200 Ohms).
If not the valve is faulty : replace.
Is yes, the level switch may be faulty.
Check the function : take the rubber hose of the tub, and chack the switch by blowing into the hose. Use a multimeter for this.
