I have a Grayton Ceiling Fan 42" the fan switch was removed and wire cap put on wire ends. I want to reinstall a switch and can't get it to work,. I found Hot wire and thinking it would simply attach to one of three wires( 3 speed fan) I get a spark and no fan...
I would be Very happy just to put in a single speed switch on low speed wire but cannot seem to make proper conection:eek:

Hey Digger, tell us the colors of the wires coming into the switch box from the panel and ten tell us colors going to the fan ceiling box. Is there a light kit or just the fan going in? A simple fan will just be a black hot, white neutral and green or bare ground.

Bob,
I think Digger is talking about the switch in the fan itself.
