I recently moved into a newly built home. My builder approved a 50 gal water heater. I attempted to use the jacuzzi tub the other night and ran out of hot water before the tub was half full. I've been offered a couple of expensive solutions. Install another 50 gal water heater next to the existing heater. This would require another power vent and I'm told it could not be vented into the existing vent pipe. Install a gas, tankless water heater (builder totally discouraged this when I wanted it prior to beginning construction) and eliminate the current 50 gal heater. Or, purchase and install a 75 gal water heater and try to sell the 50 gal heater. Which solution would be the most efficient and economical? Also, I have a low water pressure issue. I've contacted the water department and they checked the fire hydrant across the street (100' or so) from my home. The reading was 36 psi. My home is the second built in this new addition and I'm concerned the pressure will continue to drop. The developer is exploring installing a new water pump to service the addition but it is obvious he is exploring every option and potential cause for the low pressure. Thanks, Jon

You could also go with a electric tankless heater dedicated to just the whirlpool. It will still cost you about $600 but there is not venting and it will only draw power during the sporadic use of the tub. I would definitely not buy a 75 gallon tank, you'll be heating 75 gallons 24/7 even though you only need the Jacuzzi periodically.
