I filed my federal and state tax returns for 2007 and got my returns directly deposited to my bank account. After a couple of weeks I received a check from IRS by mail for an amount which was different than my original tax returns. Any idea why this check was sent to me or Who do I ask what this check is for?

Call the IRS back immediately and ask them. This might have been sent to you in error and if you cash the check you could possibly have to return the money to them once they catch THEIR error.

The stimulas rebate checks are not being mailed out until starting the first week of May. You can go to the IRS website and calculate how much it will be and see what week you are going to receive it. I don't believe that this check would apply to this situation yet. There should have been a date for what year the refund was for up in the right hand corner of the check. But I would still doublecheck with the IRS on this one.
