Hi,

I am on L1 visa, came here in aug 2007, with income from wages, around 20,000. Apart from wages (as mentioned in W2), I have 1099 NT form, listing interest earning and tax.

I read that for Non-Resident aliens, Bank interest is not taxable and is not counted towards gross income. If this is the case, my only source of income is from wages.. and hence I have to fill 1040 NR EZ...

1. Is this correct? Or do I need to fill 1040 NR?

2. And If I have to File 1040NR, where on 1040 NR form, I need to mention 1099 NT, Interest Income and corresponding tax?

Thanks,
Sumit

You DO have to file Form 1040NR, because the interest you earned while IN the U.S. is in fact taxable income.

It would NOT be taxable income if you were on a F-1 or J-1 visa.
