Have a very good friend (have been friends for approx 20yrs) who unfortunately is an alcoholic. Recently he met a woman whilst in rehab (she was recovering as well) who appears to be taking huge advantage of him. She has moved in & is draining his bank a/c. he has never drunk wine ever but she con't buys wine for him (with his money) She is sober enough to ring in sick for him & to answer the door to the police (he was at risk just recently of suicide & the police visited). She told the police that my friend was fine & she was his carer when in actual fact he was in the other room drunk & drinking more wine which she had supplied him. When she is not around his friends myself included attempt to help him & he acknowledges that she is more then likely after his house. But then she returns & begins talking about power of attorney. I am very concerned especially in light of the fact that she is a legal secretary & apparently her job is always there for her.
My question is is there anything, anything at all that we can do to help him protect himself??

Make sure he understands that he should not under any circumstances give her power of attorney. Other than that all you can do is try and talk sense into him. He has his free will so unfortunately he will have to be the one that ultimately learns the hard way.

I think both issues - his drinking and this woman - have the same answers.

You can't make anyone do what they don't want to do, see what they don't want to see.

So, no, I don't think there is anything you can do.

You can not make someone be smart, he is making bad choices, you can try and talk to him, but as with most drunks, they normally dn't care.
