Something strange has been going on with my 2000 Impala:confused: The temperature gauge has been showing that my car is running very hot in the red area. My Low coolant Light has been coming on even though it's the proper amount of coolant. There is no smoking, boiling, heat or any other sign on an overheated engine. Could it still be running hot? What needs to be replaced?

Where are you checking for the coolant level? If you're checking in the coolant reservior, the coolant level may be low in the radiator, where the level sensor is mounted.
There is a possible bulletin for this condition.
Some of the steps include inspecting for oil contamination in the cooling system.
With the key on, engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected, observe the low coolant indicator. If it goes out during this test, you probably need the sensor.
Now, for the overheating... if you have in fact verified the coolant level is correct, you will need to determine if the engine is actually overheating (not likely if it isn't boiling over, etc) or perhaps the temp sensor for the gauge is faulty.
Have all this diagnosed by a qualified shop in your area before you run into potentially bigger repairs.
I hope this helps.
