We put in a new toilet and flange. Now the toilet don't set flat on floor anymore about 1/2 inch up off floor. It rocks back and forth when you sit on it. Did we put the wrong size of flange in or what? :confused: Please help. :eek: Thank You.

The toilet flange should sit directly on the finished floor.. no higher. Sounds like you added a flange onto an old flange..? That might result in this issue.

Explain what you saw prior to doing anything, explain what you did, the more info. The better... MARK

The old flange was broke, it came off in two pieces. Husband, Now ex replaced that with a new flange and toilet has been unlevel ever since. We are not sure beyond that. We are thinking about Monday taking toilet off and taking a picture of it and posting it or emailing to help understand more better cause We (mom N daughter) don't know anything of this area. Lisa

Install pics. To your computer picture file, then go to post like regular. You will see GO ADVANCE button, click that, then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS, click that, that brings new pop up window. Then see BROWSE button, click that, then click on file/folder you have pic in. Then press upload and will upload linked to your post (you need to type words into the post box or will not go to advanced feature). Try that let us know.

I have tried to put up pictures but keeps saying pictures are too big. I have croped them and so on and don't know how to make them any bigger. I can email you the pictures if you'd like let me know. Lisa

When you hit go advanced button it brings you to screen that has another MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button... you will see a link directing you to site that reduces file size.. a bit confusing to use... but I am here for awhile.

The black flange looks like it is in OK condition. It is the only flange that needs to be there. Is this flange broken? The metal looks bent at one of the johnni bolts. If bent, not concerned.. if rotted or cracked.. let me know.

Was the red flange screwed down?

Boths sides at the bolts are cracked. The red toilet flange was bolted down to the black floor flange. We just today took off the red flange and then noticed the broken black flange. So would this be the problem. If we need to replace the black flange how do we go about getting it off. It seems pretty secure to the pipe or whatever it is atached too below.

YF... install johnni bolts back through the red flange and resecure the red flange exactly as it was. It is a repair flange and looks like hubby did a BANG UP JOB in terms of the approach to the issue (he could have just tried to CAULK the toilet to floor)! Sorry! I really wanted to slam the guy for you! ;)

Then set new wax gasket and re-set the toilet... That should be all you need to do. By what I see... there is no reason for toilet to rock if red flange installed properly.

If rocks after re-installing.. get back to me ASAP.. I am flying to Lake Isabella!

Is the black flange on the floor broken or has it been replaced

So your saying that the floor (black ) flange being broken at Johnni bolts isn't a reason for the toilet to rock back in forth. The way your saying to put it back together is the way it was and it did rock back n forth. It was like 1/2 inch up off the floor whatever way it was rocked too. Is caulking that strong? Can we replace the black floor flange? If so How?

No it hasn't been replaced. It is broken around both bolts. We are trying to figure out how to take it off in order to replace it if it's the problem of the toilet rocking. We don't want to work to quickly and mess up something else.

YF... they sell a clamshell flange repair kit (see pic.).. look online for clamshell... then cut/snip metal part of closet ring of old (black) flange... and install the clamshell (install/screw to floor).

I have seen it where the ears of the red flange hit the toilet underneath keeping the toilet from sitting tight on the floor. If the black flange is only broken where the joni bolts go then you might try using a spanner flange kit should be able to get them at any home center
