I lost my diagram for the wires to my ceiling fan. I installed the pull chain switch for the fan and need to connect it up? The new switch has a Black - L, Red - 1, Blue - 2, White - 3. I assume the black - L is power. My old switch has Black - L, Grey - 1, Brown - 2, Purple-3. At the fan base I have a Purple, Brown and 2 connected Reds; I have a white, a blew and a red going to the lights. Now there's a little black box ( resistor? ) with a white going in and a red coming out.
Do I hook the Black -L from the fan switch to the red coming out of the resistor box? This red wire is hooked to a red wire going up into the fan.

Fan black to switch black
Fan grey to new switch red
Fan brown to new switch blue
Fan purple to new switch white.
Try that.

Black to Black did the trick... too simple. I just wasn't sure which wire in this mix brought the power to the fan. I should have assumed the fan and the light are completely independent of one another. Thank you for the help.

I missed one step...
I guess they are not independent... The 2 blacks I just put together make the fan run, but I think I now need to hook them to the light, in order to get light, fan and/or both, from the light pull switch. The light has a black, white and a red; do I hook into the Red or Black, in order to be able to run the fan alone, light alone or both together, from the light pull switch?

Your light kit has three wires, not including ground? I've never seen that before. What kind of light is it?
